DUBAI: The UAE has launched a new 180-day multiple-entry visa aimed at individuals applying for the prestigious Blue Residency – a 10-year visa granted to those with significant achievements in the fields of sustainability, environmental protection, and renewable energy.
The initiative, introduced by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP), is designed to simplify the process for global talent residing outside the UAE to finalise their residency applications.
Announced during the World Government Summit, the Blue Residency recognises distinguished contributors to environmental efforts, offering long-term residence to pioneers shaping the future of green innovation. This new short-term visa serves as a gateway to the exclusive programme.
Visa eligibility
Applicants must demonstrate exceptional efforts in one or more sustainability-related sectors. The categories include:
- Influencers with a tangible, positive impact in areas like climate change and renewable energy
- Scientists and researchers globally recognised for their contributions, subject to nomination and UAE Scientists Council approval
- Entrepreneurs and investors operating within environmental or clean energy sectors
- Specialists working in UAE-based public or private environmental institutions
Each applicant must support their case with relevant documentation, proving their achievements and affiliations in the stated fields.
How to apply
The ICP has streamlined the process through its UAEICP smart services platform and mobile app. Applicants follow four quick steps:
- Entering required personal and professional details
- Uploading documents such as a valid passport (minimum six-month validity), a recent coloured photo, and proof of eligibility
- Paying the relevant visa fees
- Receiving a confirmation email once submitted
The authority states that filling in the application takes approximately seven minutes, with the visa processed and issued within one working day, assuming all requirements are met.
UAE’s Blue Residency
The 180-day visa marks a significant advancement in the UAE’s commitment to sustainability-focused residency programmes. It complements the nation’s golden and green visa schemes, reflecting a continued focus on attracting global changemakers.
The first phase of the Blue Residency programme granted visas to 20 prominent leaders in sustainability. Nominations continue to be accepted from relevant government agencies via a dedicated digital system that allows electronic approvals aligned with national strategies.
